Our Supporters
Metro Tacoma Fencing Club (MTFC) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, tax exempt organization here to support our members and our community. We want to be a part of healthy habits and an active lifestyle. We rely on the commitment and generosity of our fencers, families, and friends in order to continue to provide high quality fencing instruction, a safe place to stay physically fit, and a welcoming environment for everyone.
The many contributions from our fencing families and supporters have made it possible for us to be here today. We wanted to thank those who have given to our club both with financial support as well as with their valuable time to help us grow. We also want to thank all the prior and current volunteer coaches who have given so much to our club and taught so many new fencers this sport we all love. Our board of directors are tireless volunteers who have steered our club through the years.
We have listed the donors from some of our major fundraisers below. If we accidentally left out your contribution, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us so we can publicly thank you here. And again, thank you very much.
Metro Tacoma Fencing Club Benefactor
Thomas Priester, PhD. Tom joined Metro Tacoma Fencing Club in 1999 as a successful three weapon fencer. He was one of our volunteer coaches who enjoyed working with our younger fencers and share his expertise, insights, and stories. He would routinely attend open fencing and was happy to fence anyone and everyone in the club. After his heath slowed down his fencing, he would still come to the club to eat chicken dinner, socialize, and talk to both fencers and parents. His sister wrote about him, "My brother Tom was super kind and gentle. He had a keen intellect and a quirky sense of humor. He had great friends." His brother George spoke fondly of him, "Tom was notoriuously cheap. And for him to include this club in his will shows how much it meant to him." Tom passed away in 2021. He was incredibly generous to Metro Tacoma Fencing Club throughout his entire life and even after he passed. We will miss this gentle soul and his presence at the club. To help celebrate his memory and spirit of community, we will plan to host an annual "Tom Priester Friendly Team Tournament" in which we have a chance to fence and socialize just as Tom would have done. When we are able to have our own long term space we will also plan to remember Tom by naming something substantial after him.
